A timeline of AVB

The burden for the AVB Bible started with an agony, which ignited a few diehards, and eventually united the church. Discover how the AVB came into being.

1997

A key translator and a bi-vocational missionary were deeply agonised over the lack of a suitable Bible for native Malay speakers. To them, the Indonesian Bible was a clumsy substitute for the locals, while the local paraphrase version was not acceptable. A divine intervention brought them together, which then marked the beginning of a Bible translation in proper Malay.

1998

The Gospel of Luke completed and published.

1999

Translation of the New Testament commenced, under an expanded team of translators, linguists and theologians.

Field testing and theological review began.

2006

New Testament completed.

Translation of the selected Old Testament books began.

2007

Psalms and Proverbs completed.

2008

New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs published.

Translation of selected Old Testament books continued.

2010

Translation team reorganised with the addition of a dedicated Old Testament (Hebrew language) consultant and a new translator.

Collaboration with a translation team in Bandung, Indonesia formalised.

2011

Paratext Bible translation software (state-of-the-art translation tool) deployed. Paratext training with a Paratext consultant completed.

Collaboration resources from Bandung team secured.

Dedicated Old Testament (Hebrew language) consultant in place.

2014

Translation of Old Testament completed.

The first print, titled Alkitab Bahasa Malaysia, published by Insan Mulia, with copyrights secured by the original authors.

2015

The inaugural print of Alkitab Versi Borneo (AVB), published by LAB Network, with copyrights held by Borneo Sabda Limited.

2016

Inaugural launch of Alkitab Versi Borneo (AVB) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Simultaneous worldwide launch of AVB Bible App in Google Play Store.

Second launch of AVB in Kuala Lumpur, Semenanjung Malaysia.

2017

Launch of AVB in Miri, Sarawak.

Launch of AVB New Testament Audio Bible.

2018

Launch of AVB in Kuching, Sarawak.

2020

Launch of Doa ‘Bapa Kami’ Song using AVB text.

2021

Launch of AVB Old Testament Audio Bible.

2024

Launch of AVB Deuterocanonical Books.

AVB Catholic Edition published.

Launch of AVB Audio Bible in Spotify platform.
